All children benefit from specialist Music teaching from Nursery upwards.
Music at Dulwich focuses on the joy of performance, the skills that help build individuality and confidence, and the importance of working together as a team. Our teachers believe that Music is for all and this inclusive approach through performance, and particularly singing, has the power to transform and enhance lives. There exists a natural synergy between music and wellbeing, and this empowering approach to Music can be witnessed by the Dulwich community at regular concerts and performances.
Whether it’s Rock School at lunch with six bands jamming away, or the ‘Jigs and Reels’ club providing toe-tapping folk music with joy and confidence – there is always music being played at Dulwich. We provide a wide range of musical groups; choirs from Year 1; string groups from Year 3; jazz, brass, flute, orchestra from Year 5; senior strings and chamber choirs from Year 7.
Sixty percent of pupils from Year 2 upwards learn instruments with termly informal concerts from Year 3. Year 4 is lucky enough to embark on the annual trip to the O2 with Young Voices, and those in the Upper Prep and Senior School perform in our Summer and Winter concerts. Music is at the heart of Dulwich and this spirit is encapsulated with the whole school, including staff, coming together annually for the ‘Big Sing’.
